BRITISH SOMALI COMMUNITY
The British Somali Community provides advice and support for Somalis. Service runs a 'women and health' drop-in service, an 'elder women' project, 'supplementary school' for Somali children aged 5-17 and a 'parent’s support service.' 20 Feb 2006 HOPSCOTCH ASIAN WOMEN'S CENTRE
Hopscotch Asian Women's Centre aims to support the Asian community, particularly Bangladeshi women and children in Camden, to actively participate in society by empowering them through advocacy and the provision of a range of accessible services. 23 Jul 2006 CAMDEN CHINESE COMMUNITY CENTRE
Provides an advisory service on welfare rights, housing, immigration, and other matters. Runs youth services, a women's group, a luncheon club for older people, English classes, an under-fives nursery, a needs assessment project and a housebound project. Service also includes a Millennium Volunteer project for young volunteer's aged 16-25. 8 Feb 2007 CAMDEN CYPRIOT WOMEN’S ORGANISATION
Provides advice and information on health, housing, and welfare rights etc. Other services include talks, keep fit, mobility and health promotion classes, as well as English classes and a wide range of social, cultural and recreational activities for Cypriot women and their families. The service also undertakes Contributory Needs Assessments for older people in conjunction with Camden Council Social Services, housebound service and a good neighbour scheme. Provides information, advice, and support, especially on employment, training, education and starting a business. Provides First Step Enterprise and Development advice and support - including social enterprise - targeting refugees and women. 8 Feb 2007 CAMDEN LEA GOVERNOR SUPPORT NETWORK
The service works to recruit school governors from minority ethnic communities. 27 Feb 2007 AFRICAN CARRIBEAN ELDERS
The service provides advice sessions, advocacy, health promotion, and social activities including dominoes, bingo, sewing classes and music. Others include movement, crafts, outings, and social activities. Meanwhile the services of a hairdresser are also available, whilst transport and other provision is made for people with disabilities. Special projects include the UK Online Learning Centre, a Good Neighbour Scheme helping African and Caribbean people at home with small jobs, correspondence etc., and a Carers Hospital Discharge Worker who helps informal and family carers to access services. The service also functions as an UK Online Centre (primarily but not exclusively for older African and Caribbean people). It also provides Internet access and courses on how to use these tools and other computer applications. 13 Feb 2007 ASIAN WOMEN LONE PARENTS ASSOCIATION
Asian Lone Parent’s Association is a self-help and support group for lone female Asian parents in London. The Association runs different programmes of advice on health and education information for Asian women and operates a referral system. Social and recreational activities are also provided. 13 Feb 2007 ETHIOPIAN HEALTH SUPPORT ASSOCIATION
The Association provides all round assistance for Ethiopians with particular attention to mental health, HIV/AIDS, sexual health, women, and young people's health. Services are managed through the provision of advice, health promotion information, advocacy, interpretation, translations, visits and befriending delivered through culturally sensitive counselling in Amharic. 13 Feb 2007 CAMDEN BLACK PARENTS AND TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
The Camden Black Parents and Teachers Association (CBPTA) is a voluntary organisation with charitable status, which runs its services from The CarAf Centre. Established since 1980, it has been serving the educational needs of the African Caribbean community in Camden for 25 years. It provides advice, information, support, training, and referrals on a range of issues affecting the educational needs within families and issues affecting the achievement levels of the black child. 8 Feb 2007 CENTRE FOR FILIPINOS
Provides information on immigration, employment, health, education, housing, welfare rights, taxes, pensions, community safety, organisational development, capacity building, women’s issues etc. Other services include activities for children, young people, parents and older people, such as after-school language classes, youth groups and summer camps, cultural workshops, health workshops (aromatherapy, massage, reflexology etc.) Skill enhancement services (ESOL, basic computing, Internet and email and sewing) are also provided. 8 Feb 2007 BANGLADESHI MOHILA SHOMI
Bangladeshi Mohila Shomii works with Bengali women during the school terms to offer services such as exercise classes and English classes also provides general advice and support 13 Feb 2007 ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY IN BRITAIN
Provides a wide range of services including information, advice, counselling, referral and advocacy services on immigration, benefits, housing, health, employment, training and educational opportunities for Ethiopians living in the UK. Also provides training on ESOL and IT, job search skills and CV preparation for unemployed refugees and asylum seekers. In addition, translation and interpretation are also provided for their users.Other services include, organisation of educational workshops, symposiums, and seminar relevant to community members. Other services provided include special support and assistance for the lonely and distressed members of the community. In addition they conduct research, carry out surveys on social, economic, and cultural needs of Ethiopians living in the UK, organise sport/recreational activities, and provide reception assistance to new asylum seekers irrespective of the country of origin 13 Feb 2007 CAMDEN HEALTH AND RACE GROUP
Supports the active involvement of Black and Minority Ethnic communities in initiatives that affect their health. Aims to ensure that the health care needs of black and ethnic minorities are identified, and strategies are developed by statutory and voluntary sector agencies to meet these needs. 27 Feb 2007 BENGALI WOMEN’S HEALTH PROJECT
This is a community-based project, which offers doctor's sessions to Bengali women and health promotion activities at various community centres in south Camden. Activities include termly healthy eating workshops, mental health workshops, and exercise and gym sessions and massage therapy sessions. Bangladeshi Mohila Shomii works with bengali women during the school terms to offer services such as exercise classes and english classes. The organisation also provides general advice and support 13 Feb 2007 HENNA ASIAN WOMEN’S GROUP
Henna provides information and sign posting for isolated, vulnerable, and low-income Asian women. Services include a drop-in service available on Mondays with social activities and information sessions. Other services include monthly exercise classes, health sessions, outings, festival celebrations, and monthly shopping trips. 13 Feb 2007 KINGS CROSS BRUNSWICK NEIGHBOURHOOD ASSOCIATION
The association runs a wide range of services including: youth work - where a team of youth workers support young people in local youth clubs, undertake outreach-work, facilitate a homework club, provide educational support, organise residential outdoor activities such as football and general sessions. The Youth Team provides a programme of activities seven days a week. The association also works with older people and here services include a lunch club, activity groups, outings, holidays, advice sessions, good neighbourhood scheme, and general support. Other services include a play scheme (which operates for six weeks of the year), advice sessions for the Bangladeshi community, english classes, exercise, and sewing classes. In addition, the association also runs a bengali lunch club and a chinese women’s group 13 Feb 2007 PAN AFRICAN HOUSING CO-OP
The Pan African Housing Co-op provides permanent accommodation for refugees from Africa and other parts of the 'third world' who believe in self-help. It also provides resettlement support and immigration advice. The service can only be accessed through registration with the Local Authority homeless persons unit. 13 Feb 2007 LONDON IRISH CENTRE
The London Irish Centre offers advice and assistance with various issues including housing, benefits, repatriation, alcohol misuse, youth resettlement, training and employment Irish people. It also runs a Missing Persons Service and has sought to locate lost relatives of Irish people throughout Britain. 13 Feb 2007 ZIMBABWE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The Zimbabwe Community Association assists to refugees and asylum seekers. As part of this, it provides advice on issues such as housing, education, employment and other issues. It also makes detention visits and runs dance classes for 7-19 year olds. 13 Feb 2007 AGE CONCERN CAMDEN
Provides support, advice, information, counselling, advocacy, and befriending services (via Good Neighbour schemes). Also provides resource centres, volunteering opportunities, Direct Payments support, insurance services, neighbourhood care, and computer training. Other services include: a Bangladeshi elders group, carers support, Alzheimer's support, nail-cutting service, New Start 50+ employment support service. The service also represents the interests of older people with many other organisations and runs a small grant fund for older people in need. 14 Feb 2007 CAMDEN CARERS CENTRE
Provides information and support to unpaid carers. Specialist workers support Asian and African Caribbean carers and people coming out of hospital. The Centre also runs support groups, one-to-one counselling, and advocacy. In addition, a free newsletter, for carers, is provided every 6 weeks. A satellite office is situated at Swiss Cottage Community Centre. 14 Feb 2007 CAMDEN CROSSROADS
The organisation provides home based respite service for carers in Camden. The Bengali carers and respite initiative aims to improve access to services for Bengali carers. Carer support workers with language skills in Bengali, Somali and other languages extend their services to BME communities in Camden. 14 Feb 2007 CAMDEN REFUGEE NETWORK
Provides quarterly seminars that are organised in partnership with refugee groups. Also provides forum for refugee organisations and people working with them. In addition they also publish a newsletter 27 Feb 2007 CAMDEN VICTIM SUPPORT
Provides free and confidential help, advice, and support to individuals and families in Camden who have been the victims of crime, including racial harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, street crime, youth crime and homophobic/transphobic crime. Camden Victim Support has specialist advisers to deal with different issues. The service also runs a Thursday evening drop-in project for lesbian, gay and bisexual people under 25 to get advice on housing, harassment, bullying etc. This is held at CLASH, 11 Warwick Street, W1. In addition, the service also runs the Witness Service at Highbury Magistrates Court, together with Islington Victim Support. 27 Feb 2007 DIABETES UK
Provides information and advice on living with diabetes. Membership is open to anyone. They run 450 groups throughout the UK and support research into diabetes. 27 Feb 2007 HOLOCAUST EDUCATIONAL TRUST
The service produces resources and research for both schools and the general public. it also aims to promote awareness and understanding of the history of the Holocaust and the universal lessons to be learnt from it. Offers teacher-training and cross-curricula supporting materials. Also runs two visits per year to Auschwitz concentration camp with students/teachers, as part of a 'Lessons from Auschwitz' course. 27 Feb 2007 INSTITUTE OF RACE RELATIONS
The Institute of Race Relations is an educational charity. The IRR publishes an occasional pamphlet on racism, the journal Race & Class, the European Race Bulletin and an online news service about developments in race and refugee issues. 27 Feb 2007 BENGALI WORKERS ASSOCIATION
Bengali Workers Association (BWA) has been working for the welfare of the Bangladeshi Community since 1976. The aims are: a) to empower British Bangladeshi people through community initiatives and raise awareness through education and training, b) to strengthen the social fabric of the Bengali Community and encourage self-help, c) to continue to grow successfully through providing specialised services to communities whose needs are not currently being met adequately in Camden. 23 Jul 2006 CONGOLESE ACTION GROUP IN THE UK (CAG/UK)
